HIERARCHY panel

HIERARCHY is the left panel that shows the entities in the current scene by parent–child relationship. This page covers the panel's buttons, the indicators on each row, search, the right-click menu, and changing parents by dragging.

The tests on this page were done in the oasisw.ai editor with one new project (macOS Chrome) on 2026-10-29. Unless noted otherwise, each action was tested once.

Header buttons

ButtonWhat it does
+Entity creation menu. If an entity is selected, the new entity is created as its child; if nothing is selected, it's created at the bottom of Root
Duplicate (overlapping squares)Duplicates the selected entity (Ctrl+D)
Trash canDeletes the selected entity (Delete). It's deleted with no confirmation
⋯Expand All, Collapse All, Show All (shows all entities hidden in the viewport again; grayed out if nothing is hidden)

For the steps to create, duplicate, and delete, see Create, duplicate, and delete entities.

Row indicators

IndicatorMeaning
+ / − before the nameThe entity has children. Click to expand or collapse. Expanded entities went back to collapsed after a refresh
Icon before the nameEntity type (camera, light, shape, and so on). Entities with a script show a </> icon (such as Camera and UI in a game made with the AI)
Grayed-out nameAn entity with Enabled turned off in the ENTITY panel. It's also not visible in the viewport
Eye icon at the right of the rowAppears on hover. Clicking it hides the entity only in the editor viewport. Click again to show it

Selecting

  • Click a name to select the entity. The right panel switches to ENTITY.
  • Clicking an entity that's already selected deselects it (observed twice). If the right panel goes back to SETTINGS, click once more.
  • Clicking an entity in the viewport also selects the same row in HIERARCHY.

Changing the parent

  1. Drag the name of the entity you want to move and drop it on the name of the entity that will be its new parent.
  2. A + appears before the new parent's name, and the moved entity goes under it. Reparent Entities appears on the right side of the bottom bar.

Changing the parent keeps the entity in the same place in the scene. Instead, the values in the Position fields change to be relative to the new parent. In our test, when we moved a sphere at Position 0, 1.33, 0 under a box at Position 2, 0.5, 0, the sphere's values became -2, 0.83, 0. Children follow their parent, so moving a parent moves its children too.

To move a child back directly under Root, drag its name onto the Root name. It ends up at the end of the list directly under Root (tested 2026-10-30, 1 run).

Type in the Search field at the top of the panel, and only matching entities are listed, one per row, without hierarchy. Click ✕ at the right of the field to clear the search.

Clicking ▾ next to the magnifying glass opens options for choosing what to search.

ItemMeaning
Smart SearchOn by default. When on, it also finds names with similar spelling. Searching for Ball returned Ball along with names like WallNorth and WallSouth (1 run). Turn it off to find only that exact name
NameSearch by entity name (selected by default)
Component TypeSearch by attached component type. With it on, searching for render returned Box, Sphere, and Plane
Script NameSearch by attached script name
TagsSearch by tag

Games made by the AI have dozens of entities inside groups like Gameplay and UI. If you know the name, search is fast, and to see which entities have scripts, Script Name or Component Type (script) is useful.
